The Tasty Ones formed in December 1997 with the first Tubs/Ming gig at the 12 Bar club In London. Sexton and Ella then toured the States in December 1997 as a trio borrowing drummers as they went, incldung Jovan of Gaunt in Columbus, Ohio. Tubs, Sexton and Ella played together for the first time in October 1998. After several London gigs, they have recently been recording in Toe Rag studios and are much sought after by Independent record labels world wide. Despite the violent competition over their goods, the group put out their first CD, "Piston Project", on their own label, Rim Records, in March 2000.
"Piston Project" is presently available via this website only. Recorded at Toe Rag Studios, it includes the original classic, "Brown Balls"! The Tasty Ones completed a succesful tour of Germany (and Bern, Switzerland) in March 2000, where they sold many CDs and much of Sexton's back catalogue, as well his recent book of stories in German. Tour photos here.
The Tasty Ones include Tubs Johnson of Thee Headcoats, Ella Guru formerly of Voodoo Queens, Mambo Taxi, and the Tropics of Cancer and of course the infamous Ming who you can read about all over his web site.
The Tasty Ones sound is a far cry from the low fi comedy of the Cheeky Cheese. Nor is it as polished as Rogue Male. Blues meets country meets Sid Barret and Captain Beefheart. And an obscure Zappa doo-wop cover. You can only listen for yourself.
Real Audio file "Spartacus" can be heard on the sound page, along with other Ming sounds and interviews.
